What is considered as "normal" in society? You could be defined as normal, or you could be the straight opposite, who really knows. Deviance is the fact or state of partcipating from usualy or accepted standards especially in social or sexual behaviour. It can be seen within everyone in different aspects whether it's physically, socially, psychologically, etc.

Anything that isn't accepted by society is considered "deviant". Although why do personal choices of how people act and dress have anything to do with what is determined as unacceptable?

Deviance can usually be seen especially in adolescents and upcoming adults. It is because adolescents all have a common behaviour according to Elkinds Theory of Adolescent egocentrism. Young adults tend to focus on the unconscious mind which is the Id. Is is a part of the mind that continiously seek pleasure without considering the consequences.

The young adult phase is really the prime time of life, which is why usually they are the ones who usually get in trouble the most. The behavious that adolescents have in common are:

a) Idealism - they don't want to believe in reality.

They have their own fantasy world that they reside in

b)Invincibility - they tend to take risk taking behaviours

c) Imaginary Audience - always craves attention even though they may not have an audience

d) Personal Fable - they think they're special and can't be punished (ie. Justin Bieber)

Deviance can be caused by conformity because of the pressure of trying to fit in and if they were unwilling to conform it could lead to social rejection. Deviance acts as a scapegoat in order to avoid bullying and criticism from peers. It is a self choice, if they choose to stand out , it is up to them to face the consequences if there are any, after all this is a free country.
