Dolphin Coast BACK TO ITS BEST
With the exciting news that the 2024 Balwin Sport Dolphin Coast Marathon on 17 March would return to its original , much-loved route from Ballito to Durban , the race had a wonderful springboard to attain its rightful place as one of the best marathon events in South Africa .
The runners voted with their feet as they endorsed the widely held opinion that this race is one of the preferred Comrades qualifiers on the South African road running calendar . The weather gods also smiled on us , and the runners enjoyed wonderful , cool racing conditions , with overcast skies and some light rain , which helped produce fast times and happy runners .

The race prides itself on having some of the best water points in the country , and our water point sponsors once again went all out to give the runners a wonderful running experience . The water points vie against each other to win the coveted Best Water Point prize , which not only has enormous prestige , but also a R15,000 incentive prize . The award is judged by several key runners and members of the race management team , and the winner will be announced soon on social media .
Speedy Times Having returned to the original route , the 42km , 21km and 10km once again all had their own individual starts , ensuring the racing was fast and fair . The marathon was won by Lithokoa Khoete from Maxed Elite in a time of 2:26:53 , and the women ’ s title went to Gladys Jepchirchir from Nedbank in a time of 2:59:55 . Both winners took home R10,000 in prize money , and Gladys also won the women ’ s veteran category .
