With a very fast downhill start from the Sibaya Casino , the half marathon was won by Lungelo Khumalo of Xcel in a fast time of 1:05:55 , beating the second-placed athlete by nearly four minutes . The women ’ s winner was Nokuthula Ntshangase from Phantane , crossing the line in 1:24 to claim the R5000 prize . The flat , fast 10km race started at the Virginia Sports Grounds and produced some good times . Benjamin Nyongesa took the win and R3000 first prize in 30:33 , with Gillian Farquharson ( Nedbank ) breaking the tape in 38:57 to claim the women ’ s title .
All the races finished at the Amphitheatre on the iconic Durban Promenade , and the finish venue was super festive , with clubs enjoying the wonderful atmosphere , great catering from various vendors and the knowledgeable commentary from Mike Bennett and Roger Collins .
Looking Forwards This event was the fourth and final leg of the new Balwin Sport Marathon Series , which has proven to be enormously successful . The series is a milestone for South African road running , and working closely with Balwin Properties , we plan to make the four races even bigger and better in 2025 .
