ADVERTORIAL THANK YOU, MAGNESIUM CAFÉ! Y oung Sasolburg-based middle-distance superstar Nicole Louw (17) has been selected to represent South Africa in the 1500m at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina in October, and she says using Magnesium Café supplements has played a leading role in her recent success on the track. The last two years have seen Nicole really begin to establish herself as a star of South African athletics. In 2017 she won the 1500m and 3000m titles at the SA Schools Champs, then won the same two titles a week later at the ASA Under-18 Champs. After finishing a very creditable fourth in the 1500m at the 2017 ASA Senior Champs, in spite of being just 16, she then represented South Africa at the IAAF World Under-18 Champs in Kenya and managed a fifth in the 1500m final. Later that year she won the senior women’s race at the Thembisa Mile in Gauteng. This year, Nicole finished third in the ASA Cross Country Trials in January, which saw her selected to run for her country in the CAA African Cross Country Champs in Algeria in February, where she finished 20th in the Under-20 age category. Returning to the track just three days later, and running on tired legs, she managed second place in the 3000m and third in the 1500m at the SA Schools Champs. After that, she won the 1500m title at the ASA Under-18 Champs, and added a third place in the 800m. “I ran the 800 instead of the 3000 to try something different. I had run an 800 in Sasolburg and clocked 2:07, so decided to give it a try at SA Champs. From there, she went to the CAA Southern Region Under-18 Champs in Boksburg and ran away with the 1500m, then took third at the African Champs in Algeria, and that clinched her selection for the Youth Olympics. “I’m so excited, because I’ve never been overseas before, other than a family holiday in Mauritius, and it will be the first time I represent South Africa outside of Africa. There are 15 South African track and field athletes going and all of us were already together in Algeria, so we know each other and there is a great spirit in the team.” Nicole says that a lot of credit for her most recent success must go to the Slow Carma tablets from Magnesium Café that she began using this year. “I must say that I feel a lot more energised, but best of all is that I don’t suffer from cramps as much. I used to often get cramps in my calves at night, so it has really helped me sleep better, and I love not having cramps after hard training sessions! Now I don’t need to hold back as much in the early part of races any more, and I want thank Magnesium Café for making such a huge difference in my running!” 15
