CHANGE ARCHITECTS
Driving a Culture of Excellence
As the organization gears up to fulfill its vision of
becoming a world-class natural resource company,
Philex Mining Corporation (PMC) is setting all
measures to ensure utilization of above standard
strategies and structure, best in class systems and
processes, and a competent and committed
workforce.
It’s a long and challenging road to PMC’s
destination. To be one of the best in the global
mining industry, greater improvements must be
implemented. The organization carries the
insurmountable task of supporting its people—
individuals, processes, systems—to adapt more
efficiently to its desired changes. This is where PMC’s
intelligent and strategic approach to organizational
development, otherwise known as Change
Management, comes in. Change Management is a
methodology and a set of interventions to facilitate
an effective transition of the employees and the
organization.
In 2013, PMC went through a Business Process
Review (BPR) to ensure a comprehensive study of the
current systems and processes before designing any
developmental project. The company employed the
services of the country’s largest multidisciplinary
services, SGV & Co., to conduct the BPR. This move
was most insightful of the processes and systems that
may allow improvements and further efficiency in
Operations and other departments.
The Drivers towards a Culture of Excellence
e
The Change Architects came about because of
Change Management. Members of this group were
nominated by senior managers to help effectively
communicate the Change programs to the rest of
the organization.
The Architects were trained to fully understand the
need for change and the concept of Change
Management. They have been properly equipped
with the necessary tools to be effective advocates of
change.
As Organizational Development Manager Kriskyril
Lapitan shared, “it has been a learning process since
day 1 and it continues to be an exciting story for the
Change Architects because they are seeing
first-hand what the implications of these changes
could be not only to the organization but also to
them personally.”
“As we are on the verge of implementing new
systems and processes, the Change Architects are
gearing up to support PMC for the possible
changes. Organizations do not change by
themselves, but people can. And what’s important is
that there is the political will to change.” Mr. Lapitan
added.
After identifying opportunities that will improve
work quality, reduce costs, and cut process time, the
Change Management system was put into place,
and a Change Management team was created to
support the smooth transition for everyone as the
business takes a major transformation.
PURPOSE
Our purpose is to drive a culture of sustainable
change across the organization on relevant
improvements related to business operations
through advocacy, leadership, and stakeholder
empowerment.
