QATARI CRISIS. THE CAUSES AND THE
CONSEQUENCES
The article deals with Qatari crisis, which began when several
countries abruptly cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar in June 5, 2017.
These countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain
and Egypt, imposed land, sea and air blockade on Qatar.
The Saudi-led coalition refered to Qatar's alleged support for terrorism
and extremism. They have criticized Qatar's dangerous relations with Iran
and Turkey. Qatar did not agree to any of the Saudi-led coalition's 13
demands. The demands included breaking ties with Iran, stopping military
coordination with Turkey, stopping supporting “Muslim Brotherhood”, “The
Islamic State”, “al-Qaeda”, “Hizballah”, closing Al-Jazeera, etc. Qatar managed
to resist the crisis with the help of Turkey and Iran. The position of Tehran
and Ankara in the region due this conflict has become the strongest. The
Qatari crisis is deepening the tension in the Middle East and particularly in
the Gulf region. A few young leaders of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar are
shaping new foreign policy.
