A reception was held Thursday , Oct . 24 , at Soulé Steam Feed Works to celebrate 40 years of the Community Foundation of East Mississippi , a tax-exempt public charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents in Lauderdale , Kemper , Neshoba , Newton and Clarke counties . Local business leaders , government officials and community residents turned out to celebrate the foundation and its success over the past four decades . CFEM has bestowed more than $ 13 million in grants and endowment awards to nonprofits , schools and government entities . The foundation also currently operates 110 funds spanning an array of causes , including the arts , education , animals , historic preservation , youth and more . Photos by Thomas Howard .
