Distinguished Lecturer 2015‐2016
Dean Millar
Dean Millar is Director of the Energy, Renewables and Carbon Management (ERCM) group of
MIRARCO and Professor of Energy in Mining within Laurentian University's Bharti School of
Engineering. He is Fellow of the IOM3, holds a bachelor’s
degree in Mining Engineering and a doctorate in Rock
Mechanics, both from Imperial College, and is a Certified
Energy Manager. Millar sits on the Executive Committee of
the CIM Maintenance, Engineering and Reliability Society
(MERS) and is the Energy Theme Leader for the Ultra Deep
Mine Network. Dean was selected as a Distinguished
Lecturer “In recognition of his research contributions to the
field of energy management in mining”. One of his lectures
“The Journey to the 40% Mine is shorthand for a concept that
promotes the introduction of step‐change, disruptive
technologies that will completely overhaul energy operations
cost structures for mineral production. The aim is to bring
about a sector wide reduction of primary energy consumption associated with mining to 40% of
base year 2000 levels by 2040.

5. Publications
In 2016, Agus P. Sasmito PhD accepted the role of Director of PEER Review Chair (Publications).
Thank you for your commitment Agus. Also, a very big thank you is well earned by Marcel Djivre
for his years of dedication, leadership, guidance and work in this role. Marcel has always required
and ensured the highest standard of papers for the CIM Journal and affiliates. Also, as it is in his
nature, he continues to motivate and elevate authors and colleagues to highest levels achievable.

Similarly, a very hardy thank you to Janice Burke, Editorial Coordinator, CIM Journal for her
ongoing dedication and efforts in ensuring the ongoing success of ``Peer Review`` and ``Journal``
