Changes to the Executive Committee and Membership Database
In 2013 through a MER taskforce, the
“Position Guide for Executive Members…..”
prepared by Rick Clark and issued in 1996
was completely revised, updated and
renamed the “MER Executive Committee
Manual”. Two roles positions were
eliminated and a “Director of Energy” was
added. In 2014/2015, we developed a
“Director of Sponsorship” role to provide a
mechanism to solicit and accept donations
or earn revenues through our volunteer
activities. Subsequently, in 2015 and
continuing through 2016 we initiated a trial
“Executive Aid” role. The purpose of this role
is to provide opportunities and experience
for up and coming professionals to work
with our executives or to attract key skills in
advancing our projects. Finally in 2016, and
still a work‐in‐progress, we are developing a
3. Membership framework to provide a new “Emeritus” or
Retired Executive category. Many volunteers
have earned our respect and recognition
through their years of dedication and service.
Also many volunteers may not be available to
continue to fully participate due to changes
in career or other circumstances. Providing
a retirement option gives them an option to
stay in contact with all their colleagues,
remain on our mailing list and continue to
receive society news and documents. Also if
they wish, they could participate in specific
projects to provide their knowledge and
experience. In essence an Emeritus
Executive does not need to attend any
meetings, does not vote or is counted as part
of quorum. Also reinstatement is simply
through a vote of the Executive Committee if
they wish to return to full status.
CIM National is in the midst of updating its
computer systems including a number of
upgrades and improvements to the
membership database. During 2016,
verifiable membership numbers by various
classifications were not readily available.
However this phase and work of the system
upgrade is nearing completion and the
information is scheduled to become available
during Q1 of 2017. On an “order of
magnitude” basis, expectations are that the
total membership numbers may be lower
due to the economic down turn of the past
few years and this is further exacerbated with
cancellation MeMO in 2015, where normally
the attendees also register to become CIM
members.
