4. Winners of Scholarships and Awards
The Ken Hildebrant Memorial Scholarship
Lea Johnston, 4th Year Geological Engineering, University
of British Columbia
Lea has had a number of co‐op experiences involving
geotechnical monitoring and stability in the mining sector,
including a year at Teck Resource's Highland Valley Copper
mine, and a term with Golder Associates in Mine Waste. Her
experience includes supervising drilling programs and
installing high‐wall monitoring equipment, as well as modeling
benches, waste dump configurations and tailings dams in
geotechnical stability programs. She hopes to continue her
career as a geotechnical engineer in the mining industry, and
has shaped her final year at UBC to gain more knowledge in
mine stability and dam construction

William Dixon, 2 nd Year Material Engineering, McGill
University
William has developed a passion for mineral processing, and
recently completed a summer internship at Hatch. Also, he is a
member of McGill’s varsity swim team. In the future he plans
to pursue a graduate degree in mineral processing or begin
working in the Canadian mineral processing industry.
