Mend My Broken Heart 01 | Page 6

The following is a transcript of a conversation I had with a friend about his greatest heartbreak.

So... I dated this girl for four years... and prior to dating, we were best friends for two... and the greatest heartbreak was... in February, so yeah, about a year... from today...

Ago?

Yeah, a year ago.

She spent the night at my house and that morning, waking up, we would usually wake up together, but she woke up... I woke up to her already dressed and ready to leave, so I thought it was a little odd, but... she said that everything was fine and then I'd asked her if we could... if she would either wanna spend the night again at my house that night... or... she was also house sitting for her cousin and I asked if we could spend the night over there and she told me that she was just gonna go and hang out with some friends from her class after she got out of school. And I had work, so.... I figured I'd be too tired to hang out anyway.

I get off work and throughout the day, I'd been texting her... seeing what was up and she... told me that she was hanging out with friends from geography at a bar nearby my work and then I texted her and asked if it was an exclusive affair or if she would be down to hang out after I got off... And she didn't respond for about an hour and then I got off work and she responded... she said, "I think it's going to be more an exclusive affair," so then I got a little suspicious.

And I...

This is where I...

Went crazy because I thought to myself, I could either just go back home and have a regular night and just go to sleep and not worry about it... or I could take the bus to her cousin's house... and really see if she was telling the truth 'cause I knew the bar where she was at, I knew where her cousin lived, and something in me just knew it wasn't right.

So... I decided to take the bus and go to her cousin's house and I pull up, and I'm outside and it's a second story apartment building and in her cousin's house, there is a large window in the living room where you can see into the house. So I walk up and I see her with another guy from her geography class and at first I'm thinking, "Okay, you know? Maybe it's not all bad, maybe they are just hanging out," and then... I saw her lean in and start kissing him.

So then, I decide again, "Okay, [friend's name], this is pretty hearbreaking, you could just go home, break it off, and be done with it. But instead, I call her and I watch as she walks over to pick up the phone and ignores the call. So then, again, I call her and then I watch her turn her phone off.

So then [chuckles] I walk up to the building and I start ringing every doorbell on the panel until somebody in the apartment complex opens the door. And I just say. "Oh, I have to drop something off for so and so upstairs, like, I''ll be real quick." So they let me in. So I walk up and I knock on the door, and she opens it and she just says, "Hi!"

"He's in there. I see him in there, like, I know that he's in there."
