us with more photosynthesizers to use the carbon dioxide so that we could greatly decrease the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and could stop putting even more in as we cut down trees .
So we have a solution that deals with the protection of the organisms that can lower our greenhouse gases amounts that we have and are emitting . But along with this , we also need to deal with the things that are putting greenhouse gases in our atmosphere in the first place . And to deal with this , my solution is nuclear power . I believe that there is great promise in this energy source because of the following facts :
• Uranium mines aim for zero emissions of pollutants .
• There is an estimate of there being around 40 trillion tons of uranium in the world ’ s crust .
• A single uranium pellet the size of a finger tip holds as much energy as 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas .
• We now have safe ways to store nuclear waste and are also working on finding ways to use the nuclear waste .
• And the fact that 87 % of all human produced carbon dioxide , is released through the burning of fossil fuels .
It is for these reasons , along with the fact that power would also be very cheap , that I believe that switching to nuclear power is a viable option . We also don ’ t have to use it for everything , due to the fact that we have many other sustainable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar power . But nuclear power would provide us with a sustainable energy source that did not rely on the weather in order to function . And I realize that there is the problem with uranium that it will run out eventually , but we still use fossil fuels despite this don ’ t we ? For this reason I don ’ t believe that uranium should become the power source that we rely on , but I suggest it for a short term alternative while we look for more efficient and ever present ways that we can make electricity that doesn ’ t involve relying on something that will eventually run out . Really , we should be doing this anyway , but by using nuclear power , as we do this we won ’ t have to worry about all the greenhouse gases that we are pumping into the atmosphere and the consequences that are going to come with it . And that is why I suggest nuclear power to be an energy source that we should turn to : So we can find an alternate energy source that will be constantly available and won ’ t put pressure on the environment , without the constant threat of all the greenhouse gases that we are pumping into the air via fossil fuels .
