ARMAND COGNETTA, M. D.( FACULTY)
A graduate of the University of Connecticut Medical School, Armand Cognetta, M. D., completed residency programs at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he also completed his Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology( Mohs) Fellowship. In June 1985, he founded Dermatology Associates of Tallahassee, where he currently serves as president.

At the Florida State University College of Medicine, Cognetta serves as a clinical professor, chief of the dermatology division and clerkship faculty for the Tallahassee Regional Campus. He is also a director of the Mohs fellowship program. An author of more than 60 publications, Cognetta’ s research on melanoma and skin cancer detection has been instrumental to the dermatologist community. His articles have been featured in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology and the
Deemed an expert in superficial radiation therapy( SRT), Cognetta is board-certified in five states – Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Within the past decade, he has earned CMS Meaningful Use Stage 1 and 2 Certifications. He is also a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
HELEN PAULSON, M. D.( CLASS OF 2012)
As a medical student, Helen Paulson, M. D., was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medial Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. In 2015, the Tallahassee native completed the Family Medicine Residency Program at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. A board-certified family medicine physician, she currently serves as associate medical director for family medicine at Capital Health Plan at the Governor’ s Square Health Center in Tallahassee.
As a family medicine physician, Paulson treats patients during every stage of life and enjoys guiding them in the process of improving their emotional and physical health. Within her specialty, Paulson is particularly interested in diabetes, mental health and women’ s health issues.
In addition to practicing medicine, she is also a proud faculty member of the Florida State University College of Medicine, serving as a preceptor for first-and second-year medical students at the Tallahassee Regional Campus— the same campus where she completed her clinical training as a medical student. In 2023, she served as president-elect of the Capital Medical Society Board of Governors. The following year, she was installed as president and held the role of immediate past president in 2025.
