ACNE TREATMENT Acne treatment Acne is a skin condition that is more commonly associated with teens due to hormonal changes. The truth, however, is that the condition is extremely common and affects people of all ages, races and ethnicities. There are literally dozens of acne treatments from oral medications and chemical peels to steroid injections and topical creams all with varying degrees of success. Light and laser therapy is, however, highly recommended due to its non-invasive nature and high degree of success. These include:  IPL: intense pulse light is effective at treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions. The same therapy is sometimes used for treating acne  Photodynamic therapy: an acne machine produces visible blue light which is applied on the skin where it produces free radicals in the sebaceous glands. The free radicals kill bacteria in the acne lesions. Yellow light is then used to coagulate blood vessels that feed the cells around the lesions and finally infrared light is applied to dry the lesions. Photodynamic therapy is able to achieve a 60-65% reduction in pustules and papules.
