The Language of Information Travel Blog What to Write and How to Write About it https://www.dreamtimetraveler.com/an-outlanders-roadtrip-throughthe-scottish-highlands/ 1. Write about your locale Travel blog writing doesn’t have to be about exotic, faraway places, it can easily be your own locality. Write about what you know and it suddenly becomes so much more appealing. E.g. ‘A Weekend in Maynooth’ 2. Write about you The most interesting posts are the most personal ones. They’re the ones I like to read to get to know the blogger I’m reading about. This means a focus on personal anecdotes, quotes from you and your family through use of dialogue and a sense of humour in your writing. Posts like these help you to see there are real person at the end of these blog posts. 3. Your thoughts on a destination I really like writing about my impressions of a country once I’m back and have processed my thoughts, feelings and photos. Posts like ‘What is Kerry Really Like? Busting the Tourist Myth’ may not be as instantly appealable as a quickie list post on the destination but they are more in-depth. You can read back over them to remind me of how you felt when you were there as you can really use your experience and creativity in posts like this. 4. Where shall I go on staycation next? Don’t answer me by saying, answer by writing. Create a blog post with all the reasons you have to advise why I should visit a certain place. Another aspect of travel blogging is persuasive writing. There are a few destinations I’ve been to that I’ve really, really loved and I want my readers to see them too. In writing about Achill Island and Wexford, I want to persuade my readers that they should go too. If they like my blog I know they’ll like them, and a happy reader will come back for more. 5. Lists When I’m in a destination I’ll look for the best things to do there and it’ll be a list I’m after, not just some think piece mentioned above. So give your audience what they want and write a well-researched useful to do lists. 53
