wil be made public in order to draw international

of the displays. They wish to obtain as much
knowledge as possible on original sounds, venues,
physical characteristics and composition of artefacts
and the spirit of the music in relation to the eras
they come from, wishing also to acknowledge the
balance between modernity and tradition. Their
aim is to modernise the traditional details in ways

All Mathayom 5&6 students attended the
first session of the seminar. The Thai music stu-
dents invited to the second session were given
the opportunity to give impromptu thoughts on
the importance of Thai music to their lives, both
culturally and through the feelings they have when
performing. Their impressions of how this music is
centred in their soul were extremely well presented.
Thank you to Ajarn Sumitra Phongsathorn, Dr
Nyle Spoelstra and staff of Silpakorn University for
arranging this seminar, a part of a larger and very
important Smithsonian research trip, to be held at
Mater Dei School. Thank you to the Smithsonian
experts for their fascinating presentation.
