Benjamin Franklin wrote , “ Tell me and I forget , teach me and I may remember , involve me and I learn .” This quote brings to mind several significant

BOOK people who serve as mentors in my personal and professional life . The April theme of mentorship fits with our May theme of Heart , Head , and Hand ! Mentorship is reciprocal ; we learn from each other and sometimes , in a different situation , roles can reverse . I am honored to say that a woman who was an amazing mentor to me in my career is a new member of CWGA . While I will not in any way mentor her in golf because she is a much better golfer than me , I am excited to help her build capacity and trust in our organization , inspire her to volunteer , guide her in navigating new waters and learn from each other while we develop new golf skills . With 24 new members , a total of 125 members strong , I hope you will join with me in celebrating the themes of our organization by leading with your heart , learning together with your head and guiding with your hands in the spirit of mentorship , belonging , and the joy of golf !!

In that spirit , we are off to a great start ! April began with a new member orientation and a cold , but not wet , opening day breakfast and scramble , continued with golf on Tuesdays and Thursdays , and ended with a presentation by CJ McCloskey , NCAA 2023 Women ’ s Golf Coach of the Year and author of “ When Girls Win .” Twenty new members

attended the new member orientation . Our membership team , Marikate Book , Mary Jane Hunt , Jean Czuban and Marianna Weise , were mentored and educated by Vice President Lynne McMaster in developing a state-ofthe-art electronic presentation for our new members on rules , pace of play , WIP , procedure for days play , handicap system and how to access information on our website . The new members who attended received a gift of the CWGA Handbook and member directory ! These same amazing CWGA leaders were also the chairwomen for the April scramble attended by 67 CWGA members . All who attended were given a reference card with golf rules to hang on their bag and an umbrella pen representing Under the CWGA Golf Umbrella with the themes .

The May theme , heart , head , hand is the perfect backdrop for our next scramble and luncheon on May 2 , where we will be “ Remembering Our Moms .” For me , my mom is my first and constant mentor in all matters of the heart , head and hand . The committee , Dana Richmond , Jan Watson , Kim Harp and Kathy Kinyon , are asking that we bring a photo of our mom to put in the middle of the table as the centerpiece for the luncheon . At the luncheon we will also honor a Nicole Guedon of the Market Café and supporter of CWGA . Nicole is the mother of three young children and is currently battling cancer . Proceeds from our 50-50 raffle , funds collected for mimosas at the luncheon and any separate donations from members will be used to help support Nicole ’ s medical expenses , childcare and other needs .

Mark your calendar for the first CWGA Tournament . The Partners Tournament will be held on June 18 and 20 . This year all of our two-day tournaments will be held on our regular play days , Tuesday and Thursday , and you must be able to play both days . More information will follow soon . Until then , I hope for sunshine and warm weather so that we can all get out on the course to play some golf !
