Clarification on walking in Charbonneau

by TOM KELLS
I would like to clarify proper guidelines for walking on our streets .
When I mentioned walking on the right side of the roadway in the story I wrote in the April issue of the Villager , I was thinking of the normal flow of traffic , which would be the curb . What I should have said is that when walking against the flow of traffic , you should walk along the left side of the roadway so that you will be walking along the curb . The Oregon Department of Transportation ’ s website on safety for walkers says : “ Use the sidewalk whenever there is one . Make sure you are walking on the left side of the road , against traffic . If there is no sidewalk , walk on the shoulder , facing oncoming traffic . Stay as far to the left as possible .”
If you ’ re interested in more information , here ’ s a link to the ODOT article : https :// www . oregon . gov / odot / Safety / Documents / PedGuidebook _ FINAL _ reference . pdf .
I ’ m sorry if I created any confusion on this issue in my earlier article . Please walk safely and always wear clothing that makes you visible . Be safe and enjoy walking in our beautiful neighborhood .

Sunshine Services

By JOAN VEDDER

Feel free to drop in and see what we ’ re about

Who would have thought that I ’ d be drowning in mid- April as I write this . Maybe by the time this column
VEDDER is printed we will
see some sunshine . It ’ s embarrassing that we call our wonderful medical supply service the “ sunshine ” service .
I do want to thank those of you who have made the effort to return our equipment . That ’ s an important part of the loan agreement that you sign when you borrow items . Two months is pretty typical for post-surgery recovery , but we can stretch that a bit if needed . Remember , you
may have borrowed several items and they can be returned piecemeal if you just want them out of your house . When ALL things have been returned we can sign you off the books .
Another point here is that we are available Monday through Friday so please try to plan ahead if you are going to need something ready for a certain day / time . As always , you must go through one of our volunteers ( listed in your blue directory ) because Charbonneau Country Club staff is not part of our system for either borrowing or returning . If you just leave items off , we have no way of knowing who you are and that creates a real headache .
SpringRidge clients can have personal delivery if needed . We understand that many of you no longer drive so we ’ ll do our best to make sure you get what you need .
If you ’ re new to Charbonneau , be sure and drop in to see what we ’ re all about . One of our volunteers would be happy to show you our fabulous ‘ stockpile .’
Go forth and plant some flowers .
