HUNTOGRAPHY

1 Huntographer, 12 States, 19 Deer Hunters, 5,000 Miles . . .

There are plenty of big budget sponsored DVD’s out there with guys hunting huge tracts of land and big leases but what about the everyday hunter? With groups like Maryland’s own Team Overkill and various other groups America’s real hunters are making a come back. While we all like to see big bucks hitting the dirt there has been a trend to more reality style hunting and it doesn’t get more real than Huntography.

The concept behind Huntography is to capture hunting from every angle. Not just setting stands and sitting in a tree but hanging out in camp, capturing the ride to the property and the walk in for all aspects of hunting. This is more of a documentary on the hunting culture and lifestyle than a hunting video. Huntography above all tells a story, the story of each hunter. This season there are 19 hunters being filmed and I have the distinct pleasure of being one of them. So like it or not you will see my story, how I hunt, where I hunt, who I hunt with and depending on the editing possibly a lot more than you ever wanted to know. From what I hear Rudy keeps the camera rolling at all times to capture every waking minute before, during and after the hunt.

Before I get too far into what’s happening this year lets look back at last year. Rudy made several stops for the 2010 Huntography tour throughout America but I’d like to mention my favorite part. There is a segment filmed at a hunting camp in Georgia where a nice buck is taken. The emotion that is captured with the hunter is unreal. I felt like I was in the tree with him, I was ready to help drag it out. That kind of excitement seems to be somewhat lost when you see big TV personalities shoot what to them is just another buck and honestly it’s hard to get excited for them because you know they’re going to do the same thing next week. There is plenty of other great hunting from last year from the Midwest to the North East, but that one segment happened to be my favorite.

Now that we know a little of what Huntography is about and what it showcases here’s the best part. It’s not just a DVD it’s an experience you can share. All of the hunters being filmed this year have at least a twitter feed some like myself also have a blog and other social media outlets. This year is all about getting involved with hunters who are essentially complete strangers that have come together through various social media outlets.
