Issue Number 29 | March 2026 exploring electric currents, magnetism, and the use of gears to increase turbine power output. They also loved the underground— officially the cheapest rollercoaster ride in Scotland! Huge thank you to higher physics pupil Niamh Woods who was a fantastic help and an amazing role model to the S2 girls attending. The team were a real credit to Marr and a massive thank you to Dr. Cannon for organising the trip at short notice and ensuring everything ran smoothly.
International Space Challenge – Physics and Modern Languages
Throughout last term and into our new one, a group of Marr S3 pupils took part in an interdisciplinary languages and physics project to design an International Space Hotel in low-Earth orbit, competing with schools across Ayrshire and beyond. On Wednesday 28th January, they attended the final event at the William McIlvanney Campus, where they designed and built a model and presented their projects in French or Spanish, highlighting the importance of STEM. They also marketed their hotel through a storyboard and multimedia advert in the target language. Pupils demonstrated outstanding physics, language, organisation and communication skills throughout the day. Although the home team won overall, special mention went to Zoe Govan 3D1 and Connor Tomley 3W1 for their significant contribution. Well done to all involved, and thanks to Dr. Cannon and Mrs Ledingham for their support throughout the day.
We’ re hoping that the exciting partnership between the Physics and Modern Languages departments can blossom further!
