S2 Holocaust Memorial Day and Assembly

On Holocaust Memorial Day( January 27th) our S6 Captains Sam, Rose, Jasmine and Elle delivered an assembly to the S2 cohort. The assembly focused on this year ' s theme of Bridging Generations. Segments included life before the Holocaust, the actions of the Nazi Party leading up to and during the Holocaust, Auschwitz Concentration Camp and the role of the younger generation in the current day.
We wanted to draw attention to Jewish life before the Holocaust as a reminder of the human lives that were lost, rather than focusing on statistics. Additionally, we want to shed light on the existence of Judaism out with the Holocaust and remind learners that it is something that happened to them rather than who they are. Our captains done a truly fantastic job, approaching the project with sensitivity, respect and meaning.
After the assembly S2 pupils then completed reflections which collectively created a school display. The display was brought to life by our fabulous Advanced Higher Art pupils Rose and Katie, and S6 leadership pupils. The display draws emphasis on the theme of carrying the message on for the previous generation, being the voice for the voiceless and ensuring we all are committed to preventing future discrimination, prejudice and even genocide. Our S2 pupils wrote some very touching messages which can be read on the windows
on the walkway between English and SLT.
