South Ayrshire Youth Forum Awards – Volunteer Award
Success!
In December we were lucky enough to attend the South Ayrshire Youth Forum
Awards, with different groups and individuals having been nominated e.g. our
senior Mental Health Ambassadors (Runners up 2019), our Marr Skills Academy
(Runners up 2019) and David Matthews (Winner 2019). The event took place in
Troon Town Hall where there were plenty of free sweets and a nice
atmosphere. The event had a sustainable theme with the awards being made
of laser cut wood. Winners of the award had their names engraved and were
able to take the trophies home to keep.
We would like to wish a huge congratulations to Ayr Gaiety Young Company
members Amy, Claire Louise and former pupil Arran on picking up the
Entertainment award!
We would also like to congratulate David Matthews in S4 who was nominated
in the Volunteer category and we are delighted to say that he also won! David
was nominated due to the great work he does in the school library, helping out
during lunchtime and break. The school greatly appreciate his enthusiasm and
effort for maintaining the school library. David was also interviewed on camera
about his win – this video will be played at next year’s award ceremony. When
the news team spoke to David he said:
“I enjoy helping out in the library – it is fun and I get to interact with people
around the school…It was unbelievable to win, I wasn’t expecting it! The other
candidates were really good as well. I’m delighted.” David Matthews, S4
