S3 People and
Society
Our S3 People and
Society class worked
hard to prepare our
annual
Foodbank
Appeal in December.
They
organised
a
number
of
events
throughout the month
including:
Staff Coffee Morning
Instead of buying a
ticket for the coffee
morning students asked
staff to bring along a
luxury, non-perishable
Christmas food item for
the Foodbank or a small
gift. Staff were then
served a delicious array
of
festive
treats
alongside
tea
and
coffee.
Foodbank Appeal
Each personal support
class
received
a
decorated
Christmas
box containing this
year’s
Foodbank
Advent calendar. Each
pupil was allocated a
number
and
was
responsible for bringing
in that item – the hope
was that each class
would be able to
complete the calendar
of items. The Foodbank
appeal was a great
success with the school
collecting over 1,000
items in total! Well done
everyone!
service skills and were
a credit to their
teachers and the
school.

S4 Barista
Afternoon Tea
On 11th December
our S4 Barista Skills
students hosted an
afternoon tea as part
of their ‘Introduction
to Events’ City and
Guilds
unit.
The
students had spent
many
weeks
preparing for the
event, this involved
creating invitations,
menus and table
decorations
with
support from their
Ayrshire
College
lecturer
Amanda
Kerr. The group chose
to invite the school’s
student support staff,
administrative
assistants
and
janitorial staff as a
thank you for all their
hard work at Marr
College. On the day
the
group
demonstrated
their

16
Marr College S2 and
S3 students who are
part of the Princes
Trust
Youth
Achievement Group
visited
Westbank
Nursing Home to work
on their interpersonal
skills as part of their
Youth Achievement
award. The class is run
in conjunction with
Ayrshire College and
students will get a
nationally recognised
award at the end of
the course. They will
be visiting again in a
couple of weeks to
give the residents
some gifts that they
are creating. The
students will also be
selling these items at
the
Christmas
Concert to raise some
money for the home.
