He moved here and he and his mother are now among the 16 farmers leasing land from the CPA. He does not know the exact size of the total communal land, but his portion is just over 300 ha, on which he farms cattle, sheep and goats.
Boer goats as core business and a focus on genetics
“ When I started here, I decided to improve the genetics of our small stock and make better breeding my main focus. That sets us apart from other livestock producers in the area.
“ Our core business is Boer goats and we breed stud animals. The goats have been developed as a stud, although inspectors still need to confirm this. I have a good mentor in Desré Ferreira, from whom I bought my first breeding ram. She advises me on Boer goat farming and the direction of my stud,” he says proudly.
