Last season CWGA celebrated our 50th season of golf ! It was a great theme to honor our foremothers and to sprinkle our events with gold and glitter everywhere ! This year our board decided
BOOK that we should follow up
with a theme that reflects the vision and values of our club . The theme is inspired by a children ’ s book written by Davina Bell , Under the Love Umbrella . So , in 2024 , we invite you to come with us “ Under our CWGA Golf Umbrella .” “ When everything is strange and new .” Or the days when your game needs super glue . There is lots of room here for all of you , under the CWGA Golf Umbrella !
This is just a sample of the parody our co-presidents , Amy Day and Carol Riley , wrote to introduce the theme . If you could picture a giant golf umbrella with these words decorating it : Belonging , joy of golf , mentorship , education , inclusivity , relationships , appreciation ,

celebration and gratitude — then you will understand the essence of our club and the reason that our membership is 112 strong ! Our co-presidents introduced this theme at board meetings and just recently at the February Winter Luncheon .
Our Winter Luncheons are a vehicle for keeping old relationships strong and building new relationships as we include new members . The February luncheon brought 57 CWGA members together , which is a record in attendance especially since some of our members migrate to the south to warmer and dryer weather . We were introduced to new members and entertained with a song to the tune of “ Winter Wonderland ” by our extraordinary Membership Committee , Marikate Book , Jean Czubin , Mary Jane Hunt and Maryanna Wiese .

Oh , those shots we are missing ! It ’ s always the same , in fog and in rain , Playing with CWGA ! Needless to say , we have already demonstrated this club ’ s ability to have fun and appreciate the humor in playing golf in the Winter Wonderland ! In addition to all of the social benefits of the luncheon , we received some valuable education on preparing our bodies for the golf season by assistant professional Kaitlyn Howe . Kaitlyn is an excellent teacher , and she has scheduled another series of golf clinics in the spring . I was able to attend a few of the winter series and look forward to attending some of the ones I missed . I already feel that I am on my way to a better season of golf ! I encourage you to seek specific information about this opportunity in the pro shop .
The last winter luncheon is scheduled for March 7 . Cheryl ’ s on 12 , As Good As It Gets
Catering will serve a sandwich and salad smorgasbord . The theme is Think Spring and Bring a Book . Since our January luncheon was cancelled due to the ice storm and for the safety of our members , the committee decided to bring back the book activity . The notebook to sign up for the March luncheon will be on the CWGA counter in the pro shop on Feb . 21 . The deadline for signing up for the luncheon is March 4 at noon . Our Membership Committee is excited to welcome and orientate new member on April 2 at 10 a . m .. Just two days later on April 4 our season opens with a Welcome Back Breakfast at 8 a . m . followed by a Scramble .
At the Men ’ s Club Chili Feed in January , CWGA sponsored a 50-50 raffle that raised $ 200 thanks in part to our own CWGA member Carol McLeod , who won and graciously donated her winnings of $ 100 back to the Scholarship Fund . This brought the total raised to $ 720 , which will be added to Scholarship Fund donations gathered throughout the year by the three golf organizations , Men ’ s Club , CWGA and the Niners .
