Join us for silent auction and dinner “ The Dinner ” of The Charbonneau Cypress Branch of Boys & Girls Aid
WIESENTHAL will be on March 16 at the
Willamette Valley Country Club . This event is a lot of fun , a wonderful silent auction and a really great dinner ; this year we serve prime rib and shrimp scampi along with a tasty buffet and drinks for purchase at the bar inside the auction room . There may be some tickets left and we do have a waitlist . If you want to attend and have not purchased your ticket go to www . cypressonline . org . The money we raise at this dinner all goes to the work of Boys & Girls Aid in the Portland area . Every auction item you will bid on has been donated for that purpose .
Why do we of Boys & Girls Aid in Charbonneau give of our time , talents and resources to this wonderful organization ?
It is because we have an intense desire for children to have a sense of belonging . They need to belong to a society that values them and , most of all , they need to belong to a family . Many families adopt from Boys & Girls Aid . But most of the families we currently work with are foster care families . Foster kids are Oregon ’ s most at-risk population . 42 % will not graduate from high school . 30 % will make less than $ 11,000 per year during their lifetime . They are 63 times more likely to be incarcerated at a cost on average of $ 292.000 to taxpayers . These are dismal outcomes for the typical foster child .
However , children in the Boys & Girls Aid Foster Care program are not typical because of the excellent way we train and council both foster families and foster kids .

in foster care . They will grow to be adults who finish school , get well-paying jobs and contribute to society .
For example , Ben will feel like part of a real family where it ’ s OK to disagree with his brother or not want to go school even if he has to . Before coming to Boys & Girls Aid , Kathy was teased about not having a family . Now as a Boys & Girls Aid foster child she can hold her head up and know she has a family .
And then we have the older teens that live in apartments , work full or part time , go to school and save money . Our food pantry supplies many items for them . This pantry is stocked with donations from the Cypress Branch here in Charbonneau . These young adults will be successful members of our community and will have their own families . There are countless other stories , real stories , about children whose lives have been changed by our Boys & Girls Aid . Welcome to March and the start of the Charbonneau Men ’ s Club season . March 1 is when we start posting scores to GHIN as well , so sharpen your pencils . Events on the horizon are the New Members Welcome meeting starting at 8 a . m . Wednesday , March 13 . Coffee

and pastries will be provided with golf to follow . Please note that the official Men ’ s Club Tournament season , where Charbonneau Cup points can be earned , begins on March 23 . Our annual Spring Kickoff Meeting and Full Breakfast will be held at 7 a . m . in the dining room on Saturday , April 6 with golf to follow .
