The Bellefonte Area School District has had a tremendous year so far , and is continuing strong . The district is working through many changes occurring throughout the upcoming year , and some further in the future . Some of these include : Updating our online learning options , breaking ground on a new elementary school , changing over our website and communications system , offering adult educational courses , and hiring a new superintendent . Curriculum review and rewrite are also happening with the English Language Arts ( ELA ) and Health and Physical Education courses . STEM is an area the district continues to infuse into all curriculum areas . The district is also working on a new Comprehensive Plan for the 2024-27 school years .
The entire district listened to two incredible guest speakers this year . In August , Dr . Adolph Brown verbalized to our staff the importance of teaching , creating relationships , “ unpacking our backpacks ,” and believing in our students and ourselves . In January , LeDerick Horne spoke about growing up with a learning disability and the importance of not creating a predetermined mindset based upon those individual ’ s factors .
The district ’ s buildings are working hard to achieve goals that were created at the beginning of the school year . These goals are something continuously discussed and evaluated throughout the year and most will continue into the following year . Much of this involves developing protocols for analyzing district , school , classroom , and individual student data to identify learning gaps and inform instruction and interventions . It includes increasing partnerships with outside entities to assist and support students , their families , and staff .
At the secondary level , each building is utilizing resources and data to make informed decisions regarding instruction , curriculum , and assessments , including using MAP assessment and PSSA / Keystone data , classroom assessments , and other forms of benchmarking . The departments are continuing to add constructed response activities to class to increase writing skills , along with more content-related literacy opportunities . Both buildings are also providing students with opportunities to explore postsecondary options and provide them with the skills to be successful in the future .
At the elementary level , there is a set of goals related to student achievement . With mid-year data in , each of the buildings are looking at student growth and achievement specifically in math and reading , and setting goals as educators , as well as with students . The staff is aligning their time and resources with these goals and plan to make changes that the data shows are necessary for the second half of the year .
The Bellefonte Area School District staff continues to strive to be the best they can for their students . The student experience and their growth is top priority , and will remain important as we move through the continuation of the school
