Ahh. Many artistes attest to starting in the
church choir. Do you remember your first
performance?
Oh yes.
Tell me about it?
Brooklyn, New York in 2008. This was my first
time ever on stage and I had the privilege of
performing with artists like Patrice Roberts,
Sugar Aloe, Lord Nelson, Super P and other
well-known soca artists.
Must have been a performance of a lifetime.
So, when did you decide that hey, I want to
sing for a living?
In 2008, when I started
getting hired for my
performances.
The first song I ever wrote was “Pote
Gwan Moun Wespe” (Respect your elders).
The inspiration came from me getting
tired of seeing all those disrespectful
children on the street,
because in my household, that was never
allowed. Discipline was strictly enforced.
It is upsetting to see or be around
disrespectful children, and adults.
From where else do you draw
inspiration?
My inspiration comes from my genuine
concern and passion about certain life
issues that affect most people in general.
Also, the undying love that I have for our
lovely island St. Lucia, is always an
inspiration for me.
Your songs are catchy and
carry very powerful
messages, like "Koute
Manmanw", "Born Lucian."
Do you write your own
songs?
Yes, I do. However, I have
used the help of co-writers
like my cousin, Kevin Charles,
and my manager, Marna
Martinez. They both
contributed towards the "Born
Lucian" lyrics.
Do you remember the first song you
wrote and performed? Describe the
feeling.
Which of your songs are you most proud of?
So far, "Koute ManManw" and "Born
Lucian." "Born Lucian," has and continues to
touch the hearts of many proud Saint Lucians of
all ages. Also, because this song transports and
connects us to our beautiful island – St. Lucia.
