BAYERN GAME
1992— After a season to forget, FC Bayern rings in the changes. Franz Beckenbauer and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are named as vice presidents. Stefan Effenberg and Brian Laudrup leave, Mehmet Scholl, Thomas Helmer and Jorginho arrive.

2000— THE TITLE RACE IS DECIDED ON THE FINAL MATCHDAY: LEVER- KUSEN LOSE 2-0 AT UNTERHACHING, BAYERN BEAT BREMEN 3-1. IT‘ S THE THIRD DOUBLE! ON THE CLUB‘ S 100TH ANNIVERSARY!

1993— In the summer, head coach Erich Ribbeck‘ s side miss out on the title by one point and finish behind Bremen. Franz Beckenbauer is named interim coach in the winter.
1994— On Matchday 32, Thomas Helmer scores a“ goal” that in fact isn‘ t one. In the game against Nürnberg, his shot goes just wide but the referee chooses to award a goal. It’ s only after the match that it is revealed to be a“ phantom” goal. The game is replayed, FC Bayern win and are crowned champions a few days later under Franz Beckenbauer.
1995— FC BAYERN REACH THE SEMI-FINALS IN THEIR FIRST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CAMPAIGN BUT COME UP SHORT AGAINST A STRONG AJAX SIDE.
1996— The year is characterised by a public spat between Matthäus and Klinsmann. The tabloid skirmishes earn Bayern the nickname FC Hollywood. In spite of the quarrelling, the men from Munich win the UEFA Cup under Franz Beckenbauer, who once again steps in as head coach.
1997— On Matchday 31 against Freiburg, Giovanni Trapattoni takes off Jürgen Klinsmann, who lets fly with a legendary tirade. Klinsmann leaves the pitch cursing and kicks a hole in an advertising barrel. As Klinsmann comments:“ I really scraped my ankle on the barrel when I kicked it. But I was so ashamed of the outburst that I didn‘ t let it show.” Despite Klinsmann‘ s frustration, FC Bayern end the season as champions for the first time in three years.
1998— On 10 March, Trapattoni holds a legendary press conference following a 1-0 defeat to Schalke in the Bundesliga. Here‘ s an extract:“ Did you watch Wednesday, which team played Wednesday? Did Mehmet play or did Basler play or did Trapattoni play? These players complain more than they play!(…) Strunz! Strunz has been here two years, has played ten games, is always injured. What’ s Strunz getting away with?” Despite all the aggravation, FC Bayern still win the DFB Cup, for the first time in 12 years.
1999— In the 92nd minute of the Champions League final, David Beckham whips in a last corner. Teddy Sheringham nods the ball on and Ole Gunnar Solskjær sticks out his foot. 2-1 for Manchester United. Three minutes earlier, FC Bayern had been leading 1-0. The mother of all Bayern defeats. And a huge motivation.

2001— VALENCIA’ S MAURICIO PELLEGRINO FIRES A POWERFUL SHOT TOWARDS THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF BAYERN‘ S GOAL. OLIVER KAHN MAKES THE SAVE, HIS THIRD FROM THE SPOT IN THIS PENALTY SHOOT-OUT. THE TITAN IS BORN, AND FC BAYERN WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOR THE FIRST TIME!
2002— Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm make their FCB debuts on 13 November. Ottmar Hitzfeld brings them on for Scholl and Feulner in the Champions League match against RC Lens. FC Bayern AG is founded in the same year. Three weeks earlier, on 21 October, the foundation stone is laid for the Arena in Fröttmaning. All are important steps towards an even more golden future.
2003— In the 197th derby, the eventual champions FC Bayern celebrate a resounding 5-0 win against TSV 1860, with Mehmet Scholl scoring a hat-trick. The“ Abendzeitung” newspaper writes:“ Scholl has a better feel in one magic boot than the Lions have in 22.”
2004— After six successful years, Ottmar“ The Gentleman” Hitzfeld leaves FC Bayern as a club legend.
2005— On 5 August, FC Bayern play their first Bundesliga match in the Allianz Arena. Owen Hargreaves scores the first Bundesliga goal in the new stadium – to this day one of the most stunning in the world – in the 28th minute of a 3-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
2006— Under Felix Magath, FC Bayern win the 20th championship in their history plus the DFB Cup, just as they did the previous season. It is the first double-double in German football.
2007— In the summer break, FC Bayern undertake a radical shake-up of the team and spend the then huge sum of more than € 80 million on new players including Franck Ribéry, Luca Toni, Marcell Jansen and Miroslav Klose.
2008— An incredible game in the UEFA Cup against Getafe. Following a 1-1 draw in Munich, the Reds need to win away from home. But the Spanish underdogs take the lead, before Ribéry equalises in the 89th minute. In extra time, Getafe score two quick goals. And then Luca Toni takes charge. He pulls one back in the 115th minute and heads in the equaliser in the 120th. Sheer willpower sees FC Bayern through to the next round.
2009— LOUIS VAN GAAL IS APPOINTED HEAD COACH OF FC BAYERN. HE CHANGES THE PLAYING SYSTEM AND PUTS HIS FAITH IN YOUNG PLAYERS. HOLGER BADSTUBER, DIEGO CONTENTO AND DAVID ALABA ALL MAKE THEIR DEBUTS UNDER VAN GAAL. THOMAS MÜLLER ALWAYS PLAYS.
2010— FC Bayern venture into the age of social media and open an account on StudiVZ. There is a lot to talk about. Under van Gaal, the young team win the double, and only fall short in the Champions League in the final against Inter Milan. The“ Feierbiest”( party animal) is born at the title celebrations on Marienplatz.
