P comme permaculture is for permaculture
« Cultiver son jardin en bonne collaboration avec la nature , l ’ idée est géniale . De nombreux éco-resorts à travers le monde ont adopté la permaculture . Ils ont compris que la nature , l ’ esthétique et le bien-être pouvaient s ’ accorder sans fausse note . Et c ’ est la notion même de luxe qui change : la clientèle est moins en attente de champagne millésimé que d ’ espaces sains où manger une salade cueillie dans le potager de l ’ hôtel deux heures plus tôt . Il y a quelques années , j ’ ai eu à concevoir un « paysage comestible » en permaculture . Les résultats étaient spectaculaires . Il est possible , sans engrais chimique ni pesticide , d ’ atteindre une productivité record . Le bon sens peut donc remplacer à profit la chimie . »

And the very notion of luxury is changing : guests are less interested in vintage champagne than in healthy spaces where they can eat a salad that was harvested from the hotel ' s garden only hours before . A few years ago , I was asked to design an ‘ edible permaculture landscape ’. The results were spectacular . You can achieve record-breaking crops without chemical fertilisers or pesticides . Common sense can therefore be a substitute for chemistry , and yield better results .”
Designer globe-trotter
Après une enfance londonienne , c ’ est sur l ’ île de La Réunion que Louis Thompson pose ses valises , en 1998 . Il y étudie la gestion hôtelière et l ’ art de dessiner les espaces verts . Porté par le goût du voyage , ce baroudeur écoloclaste enchaîne les expatriations : Maurice , Maldives , Thaïlande , Sri Lanka … avant un retour à Maurice voilà trois ans . Devenu « Mascareignien d ’ adoption », comme il se qualifie en souriant , Louis crée en 2011 Nomadic Resorts , un cabinet de design « spécialisé dans l ’ architecture organique , l ’ aménagement paysager régénérateur et la construction écologique hôtelière ». Une décennie plus tard , l ’ entreprise opère depuis Maurice , les Pays-Bas et l ’ Afrique du Sud . Avec des projets à travers le monde , de Taïwan à la République dominicaine … en passant par Bel Ombre .
Louis Thompson spent his childhood in London before moving to the island of Reunion in 1998 , where he studied hotel management and landscape design . Driven by a passion for travel , the wandering eco-enthusiast moved to country after country ( Mauritius , Maldives , Thailand , Sri Lanka ...) before coming back to Mauritius three years ago . As an “ adopted Mascarenian ”, as he smilingly describes himself , Louis created Nomadic Resorts in 2011 . The design firm “ specialises in organic architecture , regenerative landscaping and environmentallyfriendly hotel construction .” A decade on , the company has offices in Mauritius , the Netherlands and South Africa and projects all over the world , from Taiwan to the Dominican Republic ... via Bel Ombre !
