forward a bit to the night of the
Last Supper. Jesus knew this was to
be His last night on Earth, and be-
ing the Son of God, I’d imagine he
could have done anything he want-
ed. He chose to be with his friends.
He surrounded himself with the
ones he loved and imparted in them
his last instructions. And near the
end he commands them and us, in
my mind, his most important in-
struction for us. John 13:34 “I give
you a new commandment, that you
love one another. Just as I have
loved you, you should love one an-
other.” Imagine a world where eve-
ryone loved one another as Jesus
loved us…abundant, unconditional
love. Male or female, black or
white, gay or straight, American or
foreign…what would the world look
like if we loved one another uncon-
ditionally? If we fed all the hungry,
took care of all of the sick and
housed all of the poor? If we
stopped fighting over ideology, re-
sources and borders. That’s God’s
dream for us. That’s true world
Peace. God’s peace be upon us all
as we enter the Lenten season and
may we share that peace with all
our neighbors abundantly and un-
conditionally.
