Lutheran Church of Mahomet, The Invitation 2018 Programming Invitation | Page 6
in understanding our neighbor, to put in
the hard work to reconcile relationships
we have broken, to ethically invest our
resources—in short, this story asks us to
give everything to God.
We are not only Christians at the
Lutheran Church of Mahomet—We are
called, baptized, and commissioned
children of God in all places and spaces:
at home, on the school bus, in the car,
on hunting and fishing trips, at the gro-
cery store, at a birthday party, at the
library, and everywhere else. This story,
while it doesn’t ask us to give beyond
our means, does call us to be generous
everywhere and always with those
things God has first given us. This text
calls us to be our full selves at all times,
to put everything we have and every-
thing we are to the service of God’s
work.
As we begin our fall programming
season, let us give thanks for all that we
have and dream about what God can do
with it. Let us give thanks for teachers,
both volunteers at church and career in
the school system, and consider what
God can do with cared-for, engaged,
stimulated, and hungry minds; let us
give thanks for our families and friends
and consider how God can show God’s
own love in their arms and company;
let’s give thanks for our technology and
for how God can use internet presence
and personalities to advocate for our
neighbors around the world. The list
goes on and on… We have been given so
much—now, let’s consider how we can
use what we have to serve a world in
need.
