what we can, when we can.
And, we cannot limit our un-
derstandings of generosity
and stewardship to our pock-
etbook.
In the story from Luke,
the widow gives all she has to
the treasury. This story brings
a lot of complexity that at first
might miss us. I think this sto-
ry encourages us to look hon-
estly at ourselves and take
stock, not just of our finances
but also of our schedule, rela-
tionships, talents and skills,
knowledge, passions, and
even our brokenness and call
to confession. This story
breaks to us a hard truth:
there is always more we can
give.
As baptized Christians,
generosity must be our con-
stant exercise. Yes, for the
ministries of the Lutheran
Church of Mahomet and for
the Word we share with the
community, we ask for gener-
ous worshippers to give fi-
nancially to our operating
budget and to volunteer in
our many programs. We can-
not operate without these
gifts. But, generosity greatly
exceeds the call to support
our church. Generosity calls
us to be gracious with
strangers in the checkout
line, to volunteer at other
nonprofits for which we’re
passionate, to give up time
with a screen and invest time
