Lunapads offers a wide variety of reusable menstrual products. Currently, they have three product lines; Lunapads, Performa and the DivaCup. The classic Lunapads have a two-part system, which include a cloth pad as well as a removable insert. The Performa is a line of specially engineered cloth-based pads that are designed to have greater absorbability for active users. The DivaCup is a reusable, bell-shaped menstrual cup that is worn internally.
The entire product line of reusable products is said to be superior to disposable menstrual products healthwise, environmental impact and cost. In terms of health, disposable products contain a wide variety of chemicals which are used to bleach the raw materials and are believed to “pose the risk of the risk of cervical cancer, endometriosis, infertility, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, immune system deficiencies, pelvic inflammatory disease, and toxic shock syndrome” (Lunapads, 2016).
Lunapads are made from high quality materials with minimal use of chemicals in the construction of the products. This significantly reduces the risk of health complications for women in the long-term. In terms of environmental impact, as Lunapads are reusable, they cause less harm to the environment that disposable pads as, with proper care, the DivaCup can last for up to ten years and Lunapads for three (Lunapads, 2016). Lunapads provide huge cost savings for users as they require a one-time payment as they can be reused for years.
