Company Background:
Lunapads is a company located in Vancouver, Canada whose main message promotes positive relationships with one’s body as well as the environment. The company provides a line of feminine hygiene products such as classic pads, performa pads for active individuals, the DivaCup, and leak proof underwear, which are all environmentally friendly (Lunapads, 2016). The company’s goal is to aid women in having “more positive and informed experiences of their menstrual cycles, and by extension, their bodies overall” (Lunapads, 2016).
Lunapads was founded in 1963, and they have been making their signature products ever since. It was founded by Madeleine Shaw who was inspired to create these products due to her personal concerns over the safety and performance of traditional disposable menstrual products (Lunapads, 2016). Through the company’s history, they have had a strong focus of social initiatives, including pad donations, providing mentorship for women entrepreneurs in their community, providing business development support to small local businesses as well as running multiple volunteer programmes.
One of Lunapad’s greatest strengths if that they are a certified B Corporation. This means that they have been assessed by the B Lab organization, which is “dedicated to use the power of business for good”, and have been found to surpass the social and environmental standards set by the organization (BCorporation, 2016). All this goes to emphasise the company's focus on being environmentally and socially aware in their operations.
