Joshua Pang ( ML402 ), Isaac Nelson ( ML402 ), Michael Reutens ( LE402 ), and Noah Hong ( LE402 ) presented “ The Impact of Different Languages on Education & Identity in Singapore ” to their HCY peers .
The students also visited cultural destinations such as Man Mo Temple , Hong Kong Heritage Museum , Hong Kong Palace Museum , Hong Kong Museum of Art , and Tai Kwun . Their assigned task was to choose three references each day at these culturally significant venues and explain and justify their significance to Hong Kong ’ s identity .
The intended learning was to appreciate these sites as prominent symbols of Hong Kong ’ s rich cultural heritage . Hong Kong has experienced significant cultural changes over time , influenced by rapid urbanisation , economic growth , and increased exposure to Western influences . These changes have contributed to a shift towards a more cosmopolitan lifestyle . As a result , traditional cultural practices and customs may have evolved or diminished in importance , particularly among younger generations .
As Hong Kong continues to evolve , several initiatives have emerged to preserve and revitalise traditional cultural practices associated with sites like Man Mo Temple , Hong Kong Palace Museum , Hong Kong Museum of Art , and Tai Kwun . These efforts are crucial for safeguarding Hong Kong ’ s cultural heritage and fostering a sense of pride and identity among its people .
After the trip , our students expressed their appreciation of the visit . Goh Hyu Yang ( FN403 ) shared , “ I learnt more about the past and present pop culture in Hong Kong ”. Lemuel Loh ( LE401 ) noted , “ Education , like in Singapore , is very important to its people and country . Being one of the best in Asia , they are able to take pride in this significant aspect of their country .”
