A JOURNEY TO EMBRACE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN HONG KONG

A Journey to Embrace Language and Culture in Hong Kong

Thirty-seven Year 3 students from various classes embarked on a journey to Hong Kong , aimed at acquiring knowledge through an alternate language . They sought to understand the cultural impetus behind Hong Kong ’ s success and to interpret the impact of a changing culture on its society . Accompanying them on this journey were SJI teachers Mr Krison Tan , Ms Koh Dee Yong , Ms Darrell Foo , Ms Tan Kah Choon , Ms Valerie Koh and Mr Karthickeyen Govindaraj .

Before the trip , Josephians recorded a video clip about their social life to share with Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College ( HCY ) students , offering glimpses into Singaporean youth culture . During their 5-day stay in Hong Kong , Josephians attended morning lessons with their HCY buddies . Some classes were conducted in English , while others , like Chinese Language , Chinese History , Chinese Literature , Life Education , Music , and Visual Arts , were taught in Cantonese .
