A Multifaceted Experience of Education and Culture in Taiwan

A MULTIFACETED EXPERIENCE OF EDUCATION AND CULTURE IN TAIWAN

The GEP trip to Taiwan was most certainly a fruitful endeavour . It provided students a multifaceted exploration of Taiwan ’ s cultural and educational landscape , while focusing on personal identity and the principles of sustainability .

Students visited various schools to better understand Taiwan ’ s education system , culture and way of life . From elementary to high school and even to university , each visit offered many different experiences . Some notable observations include the perseverance of ethnic minority groups , the learning landscape of the current Taiwanese youths and how tertiary education aligns with the United Nations ’ Sustainable Development Goals ( SDG ).
The first school we visited was Evergreen Lily Elementary School where students planned activities for the students and elderly to learn about how the local minority groups conserve and protect their cultural heritage , such as by integrating with the modern world while educating the wider community about their traditions .
At the National Tainan Second Senior High School , Josephians experienced a day in the life of a high school student . Classes were conducted in Chinese , testing many of our students ’ comprehension abilities . We also participated in classes such as 3D Modelling , Home Economics and Photography .
