This year , the National School Games ( NSG ) returned in full force and our student athletes were able to enjoy the full sporting experience . With SJI athletes competing across 19 sports , this provided them with a rare opportunity to push themselves to the limit as well as to display the fruits of their hard work throughout the past year . Even though the journey seemed to be challenging , our student athletes were able to overcome the hurdles posed to them with sheer determination .
A crucial phase of any athletic endeavour is the setting of clear goals . It helps our student athletes maintain a sense of direction throughout their training . Different sports require a distinct set of skills , hence student athletes take on conditioning workouts , skillspecific drills , and tactical training , in order to align themselves with their competition goals .
As our student athletes geared up for their respective competitions , they were faced with many physical & mental hurdles along the way .
Harshath Ram recalls that “ Most of our Squash training was disrupted due to the pandemic . We did not have a proper training venue , at one point , we were training at the amphitheatre while other schools had their own squash courts . Despite these circumstances we rose up to the challenge and perserved till the end , breaking a 12 year trophy-less record for both the B- and C-Divisions .”

Many students also faced the mounting pressure to perform up to expectations . Ang Jet Hong , a canoeist , shares “ Through this NSG , I have learnt that your greatest competitor is yourself . At times it could be really demoralising when I realised that I was not up to standard . However , my teammates consistently motivated me & encouraged me to persevere .”
