LESSONS FROM THE SPORTS & THE ARTS | LUMEN
SJI sailors Russell Yom and Kenan Tan flying the school colours with pride as they emerged Individual Champions in the NSG Sailing A and B Division Championships respectively
Beyond the exhilarating competitions , the NSG places great emphasis on character development . It ’ s not just about winning ; it ’ s about how you play the game . Sportsmanship , teamwork , resilience , and respect are just some of the core values that the NSG aims to instill in every participant . For Alston Cheng ( Judo ), he feels that “ the NSG is more than just a competition ; it ’ s one of the best events for team bonding and it allows us to socialise with student athletes from other schools . We are exposed to other players with different styles and skills , which can inspire us to continue improving ourselves .”
Judo Team
For those who attained outstanding achievements , as Raphael Tan from Canoeing says “ we should learn to enjoy the process , remain humble and to show gratitude to those who have helped us along the way . Those who did not perform as well as they expected should not be demoralised when faced with such setbacks . Instead , we should cherish the bonds & friendships formed throughout the past year , and continue to strive for excellence in our future endeavours .”
Football Team
From these exemplary and passionate students , we are sure to learn the essential attributes and traits of an athlete and how they drive students to reach the best of their abilities . Qualities such as perseverance , teamwork , determination and commitment displayed by our athletes are key for success and excellence . We hope that these students and their experiences inspire our junior Josephians to strive to achieve their goals .
