We are grateful for the positive feedback to the inaugural issue of
LUMEN published in June . We hope you will keep the suggestions coming .
The student leaders at SJI continue the tradtition of organising and leading the Secondary 1 Orientation Camp and Campfire . The students in green are the Peer Support Leaders and Facilitators .
In this issue of LUMEN , we turn the spotlight on leadership . We will hear about the thoughts on leadership from the student leaders of the 2012 Prefects Executive Committee , and also enter into the world of the SJI Canoeists to understand how they have become leaders of the pack in this sport .
Also featured are our alumni who have gone on from SJI to become leaders in their respective fields . We will learn from three illustrious alumni on their thoughts on leadership articulated at the SJI-Fullerton Leadership Lecture Series : DBS Chairman Mr Peter Seah , NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan , and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean . We will also hear from three other alumni leaders : Mr Noel Hon , who had led the SJI Board of Governors in overseeing many advancements at SJI ; Mr Roger Chia , a business leader who was named Businessman of the Year 2010 ; and Father Lawrence Lew , the newly-ordained Dominican Priest who is set to lead souls to God .
LUMEN also talks to two younger alumni who are already making a splash in their respective areas of passion : Agung Santoso , who is Chief Editor of the NTU Nanyang Chronicle and Reuben Pang , a highly talented visual artist .
The Talent Art Programme and Business Design Thinking are two learning programmes that we feature in this issue . One is an eight yearold programme that is recognized for its excellence . The other is a new programme that is set to transform learning at SJI .
Finally , we will hear from a student , Chua Kun Yang , on his transformative experience living and working with the people of a village in Guizhou , China , on a recent school trip . His sharing exemplifies the Josephian values of Faith , Service and Community that we hope to nurture in all our boys .
We hope you will enjoy reading this second issue of LUMEN , and discover something that will excite your mind and something that will touch your heart .
