The SJI Integrated Programme
From 2013 , SJI will be a dual track school offering an Integrated Programme ( IP ) track and O-level track . As a dual track school , SJI will be able to serve students with a wider range of academic abilities .
As part of its IP , SJI will be offering a 6-year education , with its JC section offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme ( IBDP )*.
The first IP intake at Secondary 1 and Secondary 3 will be in 2013 and 2014 respectively while the first IBDP intake will be in 2013 .
Alumnus wins at UOB Painting of the Year Competition with ' O ' Level artwork
Meiyappan Karthik ( SJI Graduating Class of
2010 ) won the Highly Commendable Award for the Youth Section of the 2011 United Overseas Bank ( UOB ) Painting of the Year ( POY ) category .
His winning entry , an acrylic on canvas piece titled “ A Tracker ’ s Life ” was done when he was a Secondary 4 student at SJI . Only four awards were given out in the Youth Section in YOP 2011 – one Most Promising Young Artist award , and three Highly Commendable awards .
159th Speech and Graduation Day
The SJI Community gathered on 1 October 2011 to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2011 . The Guest of Honour was Mr Lionel Yee Woon Chin ( SJI Graduating Class of 1982 ), who is the Second Solicitor-General . The event saw the recognition of graduating Secondary 4 Josephians who had attained high levels of achievement in various areas . The title of Sportsman of the Year went to our National Cross-Country Champion Karthic Ragupathy ( 433 ).
The Lasallian Distinguished Service Award was conferred on Peter Daniel ( 431 ), James Cyriac ( 432 ), Sai Suya ( 433 ) and Kok Rabin ( 434 ). This award was established to recognize students who has shown exemplary witness to the Lasallian values of faith , service and community .
The pinnacle award of the day – The Josephian of the Year – was presented to Yu Kai Yan ( 431 ). Kai Yan ( featured in the photograph above ) joined SJI from St Stephen ' s School and was the Head Prefect of SJI for 2011 . Kai Yan received the Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam trophy .
ArtScience @ SJI
Eleven teachers in SJI in the Special Programmes Department held a workshop with Ms Carrie Fitzsimmons ( Executive Director ) and Ms Andrea Sachdeva ( Director of Curriculum and Evaluation ) of the ArtScience Labs of Boston at the SJI ThinkSpace from 12-16 September .
They were involved in developing the curriculum and resources , as well as means to engage community partners who will support the programme in 2012 .
Ms Fitzsimmons and Ms Sachdeva also conducted a briefing at SJI on 15 September for teachers from various schools who were interested in signing up their students for the ArtScience programme .
This is part of the outreach effort by the SJI ArtScience programme to enable more students in Singapore to benefit form this new exciting programme that combines the artistic and the scientific modes of thinking .
From January 2012 , students from 7 secondary schools will be joining SJI boys in the five-month ArtScience Workshops , which will lead to the Singapore ArtScience Prize in June .
* SJI is a candidate school for the IBDP .
