Dear Silvano , dear Editor-in-Chief ,
From now on , we will all feel a little more alone for the loss not only of a great professional , but also of a friend , who accompanied all of us collaborators in the journey within this magazine that you helped to make so gorgeous and valuable . We will miss your kindness , your sweetness , your elegance and enthusiasm , curiosity and passion that you passed on to all those who had the honour and privilege of working with you . You believed in journalism , that is , the old-fashioned kind , made up of sensitivity , attention and culture , which has allowed Luce to become an increasingly important reference point for the entire lighting industry . You had that extraordinary ability to connect distant worlds and people . You were that force that unites and lifts up from everyday ordinary . You used talent , passion , curiosity and beauty to tell us how a different reality is possible ; a reality different from that of a contemporary world , which is increasingly stifling the intensity of feelings and freedom of thought . And you , dear Silvano , were a free man , of a profound freedom and intellectual honesty - ever rarer and for this reason increasingly precious- that you defended with courage and determination , even through irony .
Because , as the intellectual and great man of culture that you were , you knew that irony is a state of mind and thought that helps us feel freer and defend our ideas . We will miss your ability to listen that is so meaningful for us , in our professions , where the fast pace of work does not always favor human relationships , which , on the other hand , were always so fundamental to you . You were the love of beauty , in all its facets , and you managed to find it and recognize it in all of us and in the friends that surrounded you and , for this reason , too , we loved you and now we feel lost , discouraged and are left with a deep feeling of deprivation as if we had also lost a vital part of ourselves . When a great man - like you – has left us , we have the strong awareness that we always had something to learn and invariably came out enriched by our relationship with him . T hat is why , today , we feel there is a great human and professional void that will be difficult to fill , but we are also aware of - and strong in - the great legacy you have left us and that we will always try to carry on , as you taught us to do , with passion , courage , enthusiasm and love for the magazine Luce and this wonderful element that is light .
Thank you , Editor-in-Chief , thank you Silvano Mariella Di Rao and the Editorial staff of Luce
