Who lives in light crosses darkness
new light shines " title of the editorial
" A on n . 294 of Luce dated 2011 . Historical magazine founded by AIDI in 1962 , two years after the establishment of the same association in 1960 . " Magazine - writes , at that time the director , - " to spread light culture in our country over the post-war reconstruction and economic boom years . By then , the industrial and urban development in Europe , and the theme of lighting , in particular in large cities , represented a significant and a cultural social challenge ... this edition of Luce , taking up the historical numbering from 1962 and its first number of 50 pages directed by Piero Anfossi , is presented today to its readers with the number 294 deeply renewed , but always well anchored in its history ".
How long has it been since then ? Between catastrophes and reconstructions , broken ideologies , illusions and progress , climate changes and new geopolitical and economic balances , we have reached the number 342 / December . Everything is running faster and faster , tackling the complex problems of the new millennium is not simple undertaking , from the attack of the Twin Towers that generated the nightmare of international terrorism , climate disruption that causes irreversible damage , the consequences of migration flows , financial crisis , pandemic , the dramatic and despicable war in Ukraine and a dramatic roller coaster energy crisis , even if we operate in the age of progress and efficiency , at all costs modernity seems an illusion and apparently it does not include stability and confidence in the future that we had in the second half of the twentieth century with its scientific , technological and social countless achievements . In the new millennium the present promises to be full of unknowns that cancel out our ability to predict or imagine what will happen in the next tomorrow . Dynamics that will power in depth contradictions and only a rigorous action of analysis and synthesis will allow to understand
2013 which roads are worth travelling . In this scenario , we Sapiens , have put at the center themes like the design of future diversity , social and environmental sustainability , which require new paradigms , behaviors and values . Giorgio Parisi , winner of the Physics Nobel Prize , teaches us that complexity cannot be reduced to difficult situations to solve . Complexity can imply opportunities to explore , process variability that continue to change shared values in a seemingly labile networked connected world , but in reality fragile . The digital revolution has helped to spread ideals of freedom and democracy , economic and cultural exchanges but not always with mutual trust , every nation often thinks and protects its own interests , and missing a real will to live together and better on this planet , for the moment the only habitable . Accelerated themes and information have greatly contributed to bring together and dialoguing parts of humanity to a greater diffusion of ideas , freedom , knowledge , democracy , economic and cultural exchanges , therefore to allow us not only to cultivate unexpected new social or professional relationships even at a distance of thousands of kilometers , but also to enjoy more services , greater freedom , greater well-being . However in many other parts of the world still the stainless insistence of a unique thought for all , but not understood in the term coined by Ignacio Ramonet in 1995 , at that time director of Le Monde diplomatique . The wide spread of social networks with news or tweets that run and reach us even when we would not like , changed the rules of information whose attention for many is directed to the contact more than to the content , the title more than the deepening , and the text , the graphics , the care are for many only of the appendices of which do not take much account . We don ’ t talk about beauty , merit and ethics ! We live in times of short response , in a presentism without anticipation of tomorrow , of one is worth one , everything is possible here and now and if it is not so , fools are the others . More than ten years have passed since n . 294 of Luce and that editorial that reported in the same cover pages of decades before . And 60 years from that far 1962 and from the first issue of 50 pages directed by Piero Anfossi . In all six different generations of readers : long periods studded like stars in the sky of events that each of us remember in its own way , and read at dawn on newspapers , deepened on prestigious magazines of great directors , or shown by black and white tv screens , then in color and today in net . Each of these six generations , - ten years are many for the history of each individual , certainly not for the great history that ' catalogs ' for centuries if not millennia , - that at that time lived in the Sixties , Seventies , Eighties , boys then and adults today , the list is endless and each lived with feelings , culture , friendships , books , music , dreams , passion and rebellion or the lightheartedness of that precise decade , one after another , which left traces of thought , character , visions and future in each of us . And tomorrow ? As in Light Institute movies that gave news in cinemas between the interval , the imaginary short movie parallel to the long history of the magazine Luce - which this year celebrates 60 years of its foundation - would present us news and pictures perhaps some still in black and white , flow divided for decades between wars , tragedies and collective moments of enthusiasm and joy . In the same year that Luce was born , Kennedy ’ s election were hold , however two years before the song Flying turns the world ! The first Beatles album was released and Mary Quant invents the miniskirt , the flood of Florence , the release of 8½ of Fellini and Odyssey in the space of Kubrick , the French May and Villa Giulia , the mission Apollo 11 , the first microprocessor in the history of Federico Faggin , Maria Callas leaves us . Decades that meet us quickly and news that chase each other between a generation : Apple launches Macintosh , the fall of the Berlin Wall , somewhere in the world Google was born , Nureyev dancing among the angels , Steve Jobs presents the first iPhone , Lehman Brothers fails , Samantha Cristoforetti is the first Italian woman in the crew of the European Space Agency , the success of Sorrentino ’ s movie La grande bellezza , in
