First Grade
Welcome to first grade at CPA ! ere is so much growth that takes place in first grade , and we are looking forward to seeing God at work in every student this year . We are so excited to begin each morning with studying God ’ s Word . In first grade , we will read through the books of Genesis , Exodus , Matthew , and parts of Job . First graders will begin the year in phonics instruction exploring old and new sounds , spellings , and practicing reading fluency each day . Students will also read and listen to stories to increase their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills , learn valuable lessons , and become familiar with key elements of a story . In math , students will begin the year by deepening their understanding of numbers and how they fit together . We are so thankful to be spending this year with each of you !
Second Grade
In second grade , we begin the day reading the Bible , and we start the year with a review of the book of Genesis . We sequence the days of creation and collaborate on a project to visually depict creation week . We discuss Adam ' s life , the punishment of sin , and life before and aer sin was introduced to the world . Our math begins with a review of addition and subtraction to 10 . Students review these basic facts by exploring the relationship between addition and subtraction and practicing basic fact strategies . Second grade language arts will begin with the important task of building reading stamina to create better readers . We are excited and thankful to have Meg Terry joining our second grade team this year . Ms . Terry worked as an instructor of third grade for several years at CPA .

In third grade , students will start the year by getting accustomed to the exciting new aspects of being a third grader ! ey will set up their third-grade binders and learn to take responsibility for school assignments and stay organized throughout the year . is year , third-grade students will remain with their homeroom teacher for core subject instruction throughout the day , which will support their developmental needs and provide more uninterrupted learning time . During WIN ( What I Need ) time , students may switch to another teacher for differentiated instruction .
