Turks and Caicos Islands

Rebecca Favreau

It was April of 2014 when the plane landed in the most beautiful place I've ever been to. The whole resort was an island of sandy beaches, five star hotels, restaurants, and pools with bars in them. It was in Turks and Caicos that I fell in love with the tropical life. As we got off the plane I could feel the warm tropical air hitting my body. I got so excited that I finally was outside of the country in a place I've always dreamed of going. We walked into the airport to walk out but there were so many people trying to get to the island too that it became a two-hour event. As we walked inside there were eight to ten lines of people lined up to get their passports looked at. To me, I thought that it would have taken a short amount of time. I kept thinking to myself "It's just a passport, there isn't much to look at so it should be fine, we might be standing here 20 minutes top." It turns out it was the complete opposite. I had never been more agitated in my life. I stood there and I could feel my whole body wanting to run out of there and scream. Not only because of the long wait for the passports, but also because every person around us seemed like they have never travelled before. It was complete chaos. Finally we were next up in line, our passports were checked out and we were on our way to the Alexandria Resort. The car ride was very bizarre to me considering that in Turks and Caicos you drive on the other side of the road. I couldn't wrap my head around it which was fine with me because throughout the car ride I was looking out of the windows to see what the island had. Every time I looked out of the right or left window I could see palm trees everywhere. It didn't surprise me considering that on pretty much every island there are palm trees. The car was kind of like a bus. It would stop at every resort hotel there was and drop the tourists off. The car finally brought us to the Alexandria Hotel Resort. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before.
