Personal Reflections
“Changing Seasons”
by Matt Lewis
I just wanted to live my life: I wanted to provide for my family and myself. I wanted to fall in love with the man of my dreams and have the fairy tale romance/
wedding and marriage, and a wonderful job, which not only paid me well but one that I enjoyed doing. A house with a white picket fence was not just an American
dream to me; it was my dream Do unto others and I just knew they would do unto me too! But that wasn’t part of HIS plan; His plan was greater, more important
that what I had designed for myself and all of it meant to glorify and magnify HIS name.
Well I don’t have a great job that pays well or even a job for that matter. I didn’t fall in love with the man of my dreams; there was no fairytale romance, wedding
or marriage. I have a house--but without the white picket fence, and no means to effectively provide for my family and myself. What I discerned over the years was
that it was not my season. I wasn’t prepared to handle the blessings GOD had in store for me, so I must be made new. HE had to prepare me.
Outside the leaves are falling and all reminisces of summer are fading away. As the chill sets in the morning air, the day turns into night more swiftly now. Preparing for the change in season, we grab our outer gear. The screens are washed and stored and the tides wash away the memories of a warmer time gone by.
Just as we prepare for the arrival of winter and the changing of seasons yet to come, I believe this to be how the Creator prepares his children for change.
Ecclesiastes 3:15-15 tells us there is an appointed time for everything under the sun. There is a time to love, to hate, to kill and to heal; to give birth and to die, to
plant and to uproot that which has been planted. There is a time for war and a time for peace; a time to be silent and a time to speak.
There is no mistake when things happen in our lives. Everything has its appointed season and just as we prepare for the changes in the four seasons, GOD prepares
us for the changing seasons along our journey. You believe that you have the ability to control what happens in your life and to some extent you may. But know that
before your blessings take root, and before the treasures and gifts that you are believing for rain upon your life, you must be prepared for them.
Like children with our noses pressed upon the window pane of a beautifully stocked toy store, we all have desires of the heart that we would love our heavenly
Daddy to bless us with -- a new home, a baby or that mended relationship. But are you ready to receive it? Are you where you need to be in your journey to receive
what GOD has in store for you? HE has not forgotten His promise to us and HE knows what we need. We are HIS children and HE truly loves us. Just like our
earthly parents know what’s good for us and prepare us to be great contributing members to society, the same is true of our GOD.
Our purpose is not defined by our plans. What we desire for ourselves, who we are, and what we strive to be are never quite in alignment with what GOD has in
store for us. This is why we go through seasons, seasons to prepare us for our harvest.
In our lives as we meet the changing seasons, we must meet them head on, full of faith, hope and love, calm with the knowledge that we are being groomed for
greatness. Our Father never allows us to face a season without equipping us with the tools necessary to go through it. HE knows what we are capable of even if we
don’t and
