This is the kickoff affair for the 2015 campaign, according to Debra Goldfarb, executive director of the Jewish Federation. “Last year we had a tremendous turnout and everyone had a wonderful time. Combining the film with the opening of our annual campaign has been a great success, and we anticipate that this year will be even more successful. All proceeds from our Annual Community Campaign go to support our six partner agencies and their much-needed services and programs, so when you come to see the movie and enjoy the refreshments you will help others also."
Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The Outrageous Sophie Tucker will depict her life from the young Sonya Kalish, Ukrainian immigrant, in vaudeville to her audacious and bawdy life as “the last of the red, hot mommas.” She sang blues, rag, and ballads, told jokes with innuendos and double entendres, and shook her ample body like there was no tomorrow. She was described as a “proto-feminist and taboo-shattering sensualist” and worked on stage and radio until her death in 1986. A great film not to be missed.
