Sunday
My hosts and I enjoyed an early lunch in the most charming Scottish pub called The Cannon Ball, which overlooks the stunning Edinburgh Castle. Then, after a fabulous and filling meal, we made what was perhaps a risky decision- to ride the 200ft high Star Flyer fairground ride, for a chance to see Edinburgh how few have seen it before. During the festive season, a collection of vintage rides and attractions can be found in the heart of the city and Star Flyer is the biggest of them all. As we walked closer and saw it looming ominously above us, fear, or common sense, took hold and we nearly backed out, but despite nearly losing my lunch as we took off, I’ m glad we didn’ t. Star Flyer was awesome, terrifying, thrilling and just great fun. The views we saw from the top were incredible and after such a character-building shared experience, my hosts and I had cemented a firm friendship – now we were family.
On to South Queensferry, just to the west of Edinburgh, with more amazing views, this time of the harbor with its fine restaurants serving the freshest seafood and the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge. After an enjoyable afternoon side trip, we set off for Glasgow.
