Glasgow is a very different city to Edinburgh. Whereas Edinburgh is the home of Scotland’ s historic charm and robust heritage, Glasgow, though not lacking in its own fascinating history, is more cutting edge and urban; it’ s artistic and gritty. And I found Glasgow is where you find Scotland’ s warmest welcome. The highlight for me was a visit to the new state of the art music venue, the Hydro, part of the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Center( SECC) best known for its enormous purpose-build conference auditorium, the Clyde Auditorium, lovingly nicknamed the armadillo, due to its armadillo-like exterior shape.
Afterwards I was taken on a tour of the Science Center, the Kelvingrove Museum and the University of Glasgow( built in the 1400s). In the evening we dined with the Madam Provost in the historic Glasgow City Chambers, in George Square where I learned was also where the opening scene in Brad Pitt zombie movie World War Z was actually filmed, and I was treated to a tantalizing glimpse of what the city has to offer from a special event and hospitality standpoint.
