Glasgow is a very different city to Edinburgh . Whereas Edinburgh is the home of Scotland ’ s historic charm and robust heritage , Glasgow , though not lacking in its own fascinating history , is more cutting edge and urban ; it ’ s artistic and gritty . And I found Glasgow is where you find Scotland ’ s warmest welcome . The highlight for me was a visit to the new state of the art music venue , the Hydro , part of the Scottish Exhibition & Conference Center ( SECC ) best known for its enormous purpose-build conference auditorium , the Clyde Auditorium , lovingly nicknamed the armadillo , due to its armadillo-like exterior shape .
Afterwards I was taken on a tour of the Science Center , the Kelvingrove Museum and the University of Glasgow ( built in the 1400s ). In the evening we dined with the Madam Provost in the historic Glasgow City Chambers , in George Square where I learned was also where the opening scene in Brad Pitt zombie movie World War Z was actually filmed , and I was treated to a tantalizing glimpse of what the city has to offer from a special event and hospitality standpoint .
